Despite me saying just last week that I don't often wear hoodies, I was very interested in this version. The faux princess seaming hiding a built-in inseam kangaroo pocket and thumbholes in the cuffs gives it a nicely feminine touch and therefore fits into my style really well, especially when able to combine a couple of fabrics to add subtle pattern or colour. So here is my first and likely not my last Hideaway Hoodie.... Pattern DetailsThe Hideaway Hoodie is a printable PDF pattern by Lil Luxe Collection for sizes XS-XXL (30" - 48" bust). There are up to 32 pages to print and tape together depending on size and whether you choose the panelled with pockets or plain front. The instruction file {seperate to the pattern pieces file} has a size chart based on bust only, a finished measurement chart with chest, shoulder to hem and sleeve lengths, a print layout guides, cutting list, fabric requirements and recommendations, shorten and lengthen instructions, tips for sewing with knit fabrics and is fully illustrated throughout. The pattern pieces themselves have layers and all sizes have a different line colour and style so however you're printing, it will be super easy to assemble and cut. It requires between 1.85m (2 yards) and 2.2m (2 3/8 yards) of 58" wide medium to heavy weight knit fabric with around 25% stretch as well as 70-80cm (3/4 - 7/8 yards) of fabric for lining the hood and the pockets. If you choose to add cords to the neck, you'll also need some cording, a tiny scrap of interfacing and 2 eyelets if you prefer those to buttonholes. There isn't an official difficulty rating but I would presonally put it at advanced beginner for the flat front and intermediate for the panelled front with pockets. My VersionI'm technically between sizes XS and S based on the measurement chart but as per the instructions chose to size down for a snugger fit and made the XS. I used a loop back sweatshirting knit for all of it but layered some grey floral jersey over the sleeve and hood pieces before sewing to break up the solid colour. I also used the floral for the pocket pieces. The cuffs and bottom band are a plain grey cotton elastane. I didn't add the cording as I couldn't find suitable eyelets and don't like the look of buttonholes but I will go back and add them as soon as I can get some delivered. I'll then make some cording out of the floral jersey fabric {using a rouleau method} to pull the whole garment together. It took around 3 hours to make from printing to finished. How does it fit?Throughout the body there is slight positive ease giving a loosely fitted hoodie, the bottom band hugs the hips nicely adding to the fitted look and feel. The cuffs are loosely fitted so don't feel tight and restrictive or too loose! The hood is plenty easy to get over my head but is very deep {I am not used to wearing anything with a hood so may just be the way hoods are} but I love the cowl look when worn down. I think a slight sway back adjustment would be beneficial to me next time, the fabric being heavyweight seems to emphasise the need for that on me. The Childrens version will also be on sale along with the Alley Cat Romper during this time and watch out for some doll size patterns making their debut in the next few days too! The Verdict!I love the overall hoodie, I think in future as I don't really use the hood I'll make it a cowl instead but there's nothing about the fit I'd change! I'd like to do one where the print is the front, back and hood with plain sleeves as well which will help fill in some gaps in my cold weather wardrobe.
